If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Nothing
is free. Debt consolidation loans is big business. These are
just a few ideas to keep in mind while you're in this market.
The debt consolidation loan companies do not exist simply
to lend people a helping hand. They are in it to make money,
and make money, they do, quite a bit in fact.
They might try to make it look like they are doing everything
for the sole benefit of helping you get out of debt but what
they are actually trying to do is make some money from your
misfortunes. Don't think that this makes them bad people.
It's just a good idea to remember that the debt consolidation
companies are a business.
Also, most people who are looking for debt consolidation
loans have come to a point in their life where they are fairly
desperate. In a state of desperation, just about any sales
pitch may sound like a good thing. Try to keep the big picture
in mind. If a company is promising that all of your debts
will be magically erased, don't fall for it simply because
you so desperately need it.
Elimination debt is a lot like eliminating fat. There are
ties between debt reduction and dieting. Check out Oprah's
Debt Diet, for an example. With dieting, you need to expend
more calories than you take in. The more calories that you
expend, and the less you take in, the more weight you will
lose.
You can think of debt reduction in the same way. You need
to make more money and spend less. Just as in dieting, that's
not the whole story. Sure, make more money, spend less and...
pay careful attention to the triggers that can get you into
financial problems.
Debt Reduction - Take your credit cards out of your wallet.
Dieting - Don't by bad foods at the store.
Debt Reduction - Keep a journal of your spending.
Dieting - Keep a journal of everything you eat.
Debt Reduction - Find ways to make more money.
Dieting - Find ways to get more exercise.
Debt Reduction - Be aware of triggers that make you use credit.
Dieting - Be aware of triggers that make you eat.
By now, I think you get the picture, debt reduction is a
lot like dieting. Beware, you can 'fall off the wagon' with
your debt just as easily as you can with your diet!
