It's Still Debt Negotiation by any Other Name

Most people who have a considerable amount of debt will start to do their research by looking for debt consolidation solutions. Others will first think of looking into debt counseling. The bottom line, when it really comes down to it, debt negotiation is what gets the job done.

There are a variety of ways to end up at this point. You may be looking for a debt reduction program or you may be searching for debt elimination techniques. What you are really looking for is any of the types of debt solutions that will really work.

Many people end up narrowing their searches to only those companies that advertise themselves as a nonprofit organization. These types of businesses are usually billed as nonprofit consumer counseling organizations.

Nonprofit Consumer Counseling

You may think that you have a better shot at getting a fair deal by using a nonprofit consumer debt counseling service. Many of these organizations only use the nonprofit label in order to introduce you to their 'for-profit' (debt negotiation) branch of operations.

Sure, the debt counseling that you receive will be completely free but what many of these companies will be doing is simply funneling you into one of their debt consolidation or debt negotiation programs so that they can make a profit. How do they do this?

They simply set up two companies. One is a nonprofit organization and the other is a company that works for profit. There is no such thing as a free debt elimination or or reduction program. Still, consumers tend to think that there is always that slim chance that they can get something for nothing.

The good news is that even though you will have to pay for any of the debt solutions that actually work, you probably won't even notice that you are paying any money for these services.

Debt Elimination Services

There are basically just two types of debt elimination services. They are debt consolidation loans and debt negotiation services.

A debt consolidation loan is a way of financing your current unsecured debts so that you can eliminate many smaller payments and lump them into one, larger monthly payment. The idea is to get a low enough interest rate on your consolidation loan so that your one monthly payment is lower than the total of your previous monthly payments when they are combined.

There are two types of debt consolidation loans. You can either get a personal, unsecured loan or you can apply for a secured loan. A secured loan simply means that you are putting up some type of collateral against the loan. This is usually a home loan.

If you do use a home equity loan in order to pay off your unsecured debts then you do need to be aware of the fact that you will be putting your home in hock. You could lose your house.

A better option is an unsecured debt consolidation loan. With this type of loan, you don't have to worry about losing the home that you live in. Unfortunately, for many people, it can be very difficult to actually qualify for an unsecured loan.

If a debt consolidation loan is not an option for you then your next best bet would be a debt negotiation service.

Debt Negotiation Services

A debt negotiation service can allow you to pay off your unsecured debts. When you sign up with a debt negotiation service, they will take on your case and tackle your debts for you one at a time.

In essence, they eliminate your previous debts and make it so that you only have to make one payment. The one payment that you do have to make is to the debt negotiation service.

The debt negotiation service will set it up so that you only have to pay them a mere fraction of the combined total of your previous payments to your creditors.

It may seem impossible at first glance but they can really do this and the debt negotiation service can even make a profit! They do this by negotiating with your creditors.

The negotiation process starts when they contact your creditors, on your behalf, and request that the terms of your loan be changed. They will provide evidence to the creditor that you are in financial trouble and that you can no longer make payments to them.

Your creditors will be happy to make a deal. They know that if they don't make a deal, you could simply file for bankruptcy. In that case, they would most likely get nothing.

Make no mistake about it! The debt negotiation services are very good at what they do. This is the business that they are in! Many of the debt negotiation services have special relationships with creditors across the country.

You might think that you could perform this service on your own and cut out the middle man (the debt negotiation service). Unfortunately, you would have a very difficult time negotiating the types of deals that they could get.

Once your creditors receive a call from your debt negotiation service, they will know that they are up against professionals. If you were to try to contact your creditors yourself then they would look at you as someone who has very little experience in the debt negotiation arena.

So, how do you choose a good debt negotiation service? Well, since you asked, we have included a debt negotiation service page that outlines a variety of services that you can choose from.
