Before you can repair your bad credit, it is probably a good
idea to get a good understanding for why it is so important
to have a good credit report and why it can be so bad to fail
to repair your credit.
Without a good credit report, you can have a tough time
with many of the every day aspects of life. You will find
that it is nearly impossible to get a mortgage to buy a home,
or even a loan to buy a car (if you have bad credit problems
then car loans may be your worst enemy but they may also be
the least of your worries).
Getting credit to repair bad credit or establish credit can
be nearly impossible. Lenders are just not that willing to
take risks. If they do give you a loan or issue you a credit
card, it's usually at a high interest rate. Therefore, when
you first set out to repair your bad credit, you may become
quickly discouraged.
Keep in mind that a consumer reporting company will report
negative information about your credit for seven years and
if you file for bankruptcy, this information will stay on
your record for 10 years. In order to calculate the seven-year
reporting period, just start from the date that the item first
appeared on your credit report.

Get Credit to Repair Credit
|
|
Even if you have bad credit, you can still apply for loans
and credit cards. In general, creditors set their own standards.
Not every creditor will look at your credit history in the
same way.
Some credit card companies will only look at the most recent
years in order to evaluate you for credit worthiness. If your
credit rating has recently improved then may decide to take
a chance with you. Before you actually apply for a credit
card or a loan, it may be a good idea to just contact that
company and inquire about their credit policies and acceptance
standards.
You don't want to apply for a bunch of credit cards, only
to be turned down. Every time you apply for a loan, it shows
up on your credit record.

Budget to Repair Bad Credit
|
|
If you lack the discipline to create a budget that you can
stick to then you may want to look into debt
counseling. They may be able to show you how to establish
a repayment plan with your credit card companies and other
creditors. They can even give you tips on how to keep track
of your mounting bills.
Many credit counseling organizations are nonprofit and can
work with you to solve your financial problems. This is a
good debt consolidation starting point because a debt counselor
can guide you to the program that is appropriate for your
particular situation.
With credit counseling, you may find that you can reverse
your bad credit or get out of debt altogether. They may suggest
that you apply for an unsecured debt
consolidation loan or they may suggest that you try debt
negotiation services.

Debt Negotiation and Consolidation
|
|
Debt negotiation and debt consolidation are two different
methods that you can use in order to reverse bad credit and
wipe out your debts. Keep in mind that the act of wiping out
your debts can be a slow, painful process. Just stick with
it!
It can take anywhere from 2 to 5 years to completely erase
bad credit and debts. If you are in a lot of debt then you
might want to apply for an unsecured debt consolidation loan.
Then you would make one monthly payment rather than several.
The idea is to have a lower monthly combined payment than
what you would be paying if you were still making payments
to each individual creditor.
The debt negotiation process is a little different. With
debt negotiation, you will hire a service to contact each
of your credit card companies, and other creditors, in order
to negotiate a better deal with them. Like debt consolidation
loans, the end result is that you have a lower overall monthly
payment. For some people, this may be just enough to keep
them afloat.
Keep in mind that if you are only trying to repair bad credit,
your credit will actually suffer while you are under one of
these programs. It does take awhile to repair your credit.
The good news is that as long as you pay all of your bills
on time, every time, your credit rating will get better every
day.
